The fire lock provides a physical barrier between the boiler and the hopper, this prevents "burn back" (fire from the boiler burns back down the transport auger) and stops unwanted oxygen entering from the transport auger
In the event of an emergency the transport auger is equipped with a mechanical temperature sensor, if the temperatre within the auger exceeds the predefined set point a cylinder filled with compressed water is released into the auger extinguishing any fire hazard.
This sprinker system operates independently from the boiler and does not rely on electrical power to operate, this ensures the fuel store is protected at all times.
As water heats and gets to boiling point it expands putting pressure on the boiler. The boiler is fitted with an internal but accessible thermostat which monitors the temperature of the water inside the boiler, if the water temperature inside the boiler reaches 96°c the boiler automatically shut down, each boiler is tested to 110°c to comply with Danish law, giving sufficient leeway in the case of an emergency.
